No. The Car Back Carrier is held tightly in place by its straps. The cargo bag does not move around on the back of the vehicle and will not mark the paint. The straps that go to the roof of the vehicle ride on pads that are designed to keep the straps from rubbing on the corner of the roof. The Non-Skid Roof Pad can be placed between the Car Back Carrier and the vehicle as an extra precaution.
